hi lj I'm not actually dead

Apr. 16th, 2012

Hi guys. I'm still alive. Got eaten by Homestuck, university, roleplaying, and No 6, in roughly that order. If anyone feels like betaing longfic for that last, ping me I guess.

Carry on my wayward flist.

((xposted my DW))

Whoops, LJ done borked itself

Joined the oodles of people moving to Dreamwidth, I'm still starcrossed_sky. Will come back to LJ to finish those comment prompts, watch a few communities, and if the Homestuck kink meme decides to stay here.

But otherwise I'm done.

If I defriended you - do NOT take it personally! I'm defriending probably 80% of the people I follow now in order to trim down my flist to the point that I can get away with checking it like, once a week.

PROMPT REQUESTS

So I don't have too terribly much time for making gifts this holiday season, but I can still open drabble requests for you guys!

Primary fandoms are Kingdom Hearts, Homestuck, Pandora Hearts, D. Gray-man, The World Ends With You, and Madoka Magica, but any other fandom we happen to share is also open to requests. Comment with your prompt(s) of choice and a character or two, and I'll see what I can do. If you have any specific AUs of mine in mind when you request, feel free to note those in your comment, too!

Mississippi Personhood Amendment

Nai's Note: Fucking I want to maim these people. Normally I don't go off on political tangents (okay about half the time), but lunelight made a point of saying that some people had seen it all over their flist and uh... I hadn't seen it yet. So repost.

Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

Oct. 11th, 2011

Today is National Coming Out Day. I'm here in the deep south, where anti-GLBTQA+ sentiments are some of the worst in the nation. Today, I know that few others on campus will even think about it.

Today I wear wear a rainbow bracelet, a headband, a pin, for those who are too afraid to do so for themselves. Today I wear all purple, for every slur that's been said, every word whispered behind someone's back, for every punch that's been thrown. Today I will keep the rainbow of lights in my room lit, for every person in the darkness.

Today I hold my head high, and say without words, "You are not alone."
Since everyone on Facebook and Tumblr already knows - I leave tomorrow for the Long Drive to school in South Carolina, which means I'll be mostly out of contact for quite a while. If you want my phone number to text while I'm off, send me some kind of thing with your number (PM, comment, whatev) and I'll reply with mine tomorrow morning before I leave. While I will have periodic internet access, I won't be doing much on DA or Livejournal. Outside of texting, the best ways to get a hold of me are going to be Facebook, my various messengers (esp AIM) and Tumblr, in that order.

Talk to you guys once I'm settled in and all! <3
Stolen meme time!

Give me a character's name and I will tell you three reasons why it would be terrible to try to date them, have sex with them, or be in a long-term relationship with them.

For an extra challenge, pick characters you know I'm fond of. Anyone can tell you reasons not to date Cthulu, after all.

I now have a Madoka/Pandora Hearts crossover verse in my head and this is entirely, 101% your fault. As is this. And this. I am not sure whether I love or hate you right now. Also it's 2:30 am, can I blame this on you somehow while I'm at it?
